First grade is one of the most important years of your child's education. It is a foundation year—a time when children are introduced to many of the concepts and skills they will continue to build upon throughout elementary school.
This is the year when reading, writing, spelling, grammar, and other foundational skills begin to come together in new ways.
Second grade is different. Think of it as a year of expanding sideways. Children continue to strengthen the skills they learned in first grade, adding depth, practice, and confidence as those skills become more automatic.
