About Mrs. Bee..
Hello, I’m Mrs. Bee…
I am a retired classroom teacher who spent many years helping young children learn to read—and helping them discover that reading can be enjoyable and rewarding.
One thing I learned early in my teaching career is that children need opportunities to feel successful. When children feel successful, their confidence grows—and that confidence is what builds a love of learning. Reading is no different. When children understand what they are doing and experience small, meaningful successes, they want to keep going.
Children thrive when learning is active, engaging, and built on strong foundations. Many children also benefit from routines. They like to know what is expected, how long something will take, and what comes next.
I spent more than 25 years in the public school system. During that time, I created extension mini-classes for off-track months (similar to what was once called summer school). I also spent two years directing and implementing Patriot Camp, a city summer program serving over 100 children. In addition, I have worked closely with students who struggle with reading through tutoring.
In the classroom, I became known for working especially well with active, energetic boys. My principal often placed them in my class because of my ability to engage and teach them effectively—one year I had eight very active boys!
Some of my most challenging experiences were teaching combination classes, where students from two different grade levels learned together. I was given that opportunity three times. However, my most rewarding experience was looping—teaching first grade and then moving up with the same students to second grade. That year, I had only five new students; the rest had been with me the year before. We were able to start strong right away because I knew what they already understood—and those children truly soared.
Education has changed so much since my time in the classroom. It saddens me to see so many children struggling and not enjoying reading.
I created Mrs. Bee’s Learning Studio to support homeschooling parents who want clear guidance on where to begin and how to teach early reading skills in a way that makes sense to children. Everything I share here is rooted in real classroom experience and practical strategies that work with real kids.
If you’re looking for thoughtful guidance, clear expectations, and a steady approach to helping your child become a confident reader, you’re in the right place.
Welcome—I’m so glad you’re here.
