Beginning and Ending Sounds

If you have decided to use the Letter Friends to build your child's phonics skills and learn letter sounds, this next section is a vital part of that journey.

The next step is applying the letter sounds we have just learning with the Letter Friend Puppets by recognize and identify that sound in the beginning of words or picture of words. Each phonic page focusses on only one letter sound. For example: If you see a picture of a boat and you are working on letter “c” you might say “ bbboat… does that begin the same as cc Camel Cal?” No? cross the picture out. You might have to repeat it…. that’s Ok this is a new concept for them. Color all the picture that match the sound you are working on and, cross out all the picture that do not have the same sound you are focusing on.

I have organized these phonics practice pages in the same order as the Letter Friend Puppets Units. This allows you the opportunity to practice the same sound throughout same the week as you work with each new Letter Friend.

I created these worksheets, modeled after one of my favorite beginning phonic sound formats.. I tried to make them as accurate as possible, I did have to go back for correction several times. I am not real fond of worksheets I would much rather have one on one interaction but for this skill this is a good place to start.

This gives your child repeated opportunities to connect the letter sound they are learning with the words they hear and say.
