Kindergarten Literature & Book Club

One of the greatest gifts we can give a young child is a love of good books and beautiful language.

This Literature Book Club is designed to help parents create enjoyable reading experiences that build listening skills, vocabulary, comprehension, and a lifelong love of reading.

The club is divided into two sections.

🎵 Poem Anthology

Poetry may be one of the most overlooked treasures in early reading.

Young children naturally enjoy rhythm, rhyme, and repetition.

Each time you introduce a new poem, with it’s activity, before putting the book away, always reread earlier poems you've already done. Before long, your child will begin memorizing favorite lines, and recognizing familiar words and phrases.

Many poems include a simple activities or coloring page that helps connect spoken language with printed words. Over time, these favorite poems become part of your child's reading journey and help develop fluency, confidence, vocabulary, and an ear for the natural rhythm of language.

Most of all, have fun! Reading together should be one of the happiest parts of your school day.

How to Create your Poem Anthology Book

  • I always recommend making one for yourself and one for your child so you can model all instructions and activities.

  • Purchase a 3 brad folder ( I like blue)

  • Copy the Poem Anthology cover sheet and glue it to the front cover ( rubber cement works best but don’t let children do this part. The fumes are not good for children)

  • 3 hold punch each poem, after completing the activity, teach your child to open the back brads, lay the poem face down, spread the brad back..( they will be adding many more so no need to include the back flap over the brads each time.

  • Read each poem first, give instruction, read the poem after completing it then all the poems in your book including the new one you just added.
