Practice, practice, practice

A short daily drill is the key to success. Keep it fun, start together, and eventually let your child do it independently.

Stay consistent!

The goal is for your child to recognize letter names even when the letters are mixed up.

Learning the alphabet names can we practiced with learning the letter-sounds at the same time.

Here is a daily routine suggestions:

1. Sing the ABC song.

2. Say the letter names while pointing to each letter.

3. Practice them backward if your child enjoys it — optional, but useful for learning the alphabet out of order.

4. Say the vowels as you point to each.

5. Add the letter sounds your child has learned — especially if you're using your Letter Sound Puppet Friends.

6. As new sounds are learned, they become part of the growing daily phonics drill.

7. You can also add the phonic chart to this same routine.
