Welcome to Second/Third Grade- Overview

Second and third grade are fun years because there is so much children can do! They still need to continue building their foundation skills, and much of that growth comes during their continued reading. Second and third grade is also a time to revisit any skills that may need a little more attention. Sometimes a child moves through first grade without becoming completely solid with certain phonics skills. Second and third grade are a great time to revisit those skills and give them a little more practice. Review is always a good thing. In fact, many of the more advanced phonics charts are designed with second graders in mind. I recommend spending a few minutes practicing some of the more challenging charts. Each chart packet lists the skill on the front, making it easy to see which charts may be most beneficial for your child. These charts provide practice that supports both reading and writing skills.
