For example, the two sounds of OW are connected to memorable clues such as “Ow !(ouch) “Oh! , why did you do that?” This kind of association gives children something concrete to remember when they encounter the sound in a new word.
The goal is to help children move beyond simply memorizing words and begin recognizing patterns and sounds they can apply to new words they encounter.
